TIM'S BIO

Timothy E Brown is a songwriter, keyboard player, guitarist, and vocalist.  Tim started playing music in 1983 when he got a small Casio keyboard for Christmas.  The first song he learned was Van Halen’s “Jump.” Although, he gave some inklings of musical ability a few years earlier while visiting a cousin’s house.  An organ sat in the corner. Tim sat down at it and played the song on the page that was open in just a few minutes with no training. It was a pretty simple tune, but he picked it up fast enough to make people think, “Hmm, he might have an aptitude for this.”

After learning “Jump,” Tim began jamming with buddies and before too long, he upgraded from the Casio to a Korg DW-8000.  He took some proper piano lessons for a few months but quickly moved into a more self-taught paradigm. Jam sessions turned into bands that rehearsed regularly, which turned into gigs at school and church dances.

By 1988, Tim had joined a band which needed a rhythm guitarist more than a synth player.  This was the era of Guns-N-Roses and Metallica after all. So Tim picked up a cheap guitar and asked the lead player to show him some chords.  After that, Tim taught himself to play by ear and by watching other guitarists.

Around this time, Tim also began to work on songwriting.  At first just lending riffs, parts, and ideas to the rest of his band, but eventually moving on to write full compositions and lyrics on his own.  Along the way, Tim picked up the bass guitar and began moving around on instruments as needed, occasionally, even stepping up to the mic for lead vocals.

In the 90’s Tim joined with some college friends and stepped up as lead singer and lead guitar.  He still occasionally played the keys as well to add textures to the band’s sound.

The later 90’s and early 2000’s saw Tim move away from pursuing music and getting a “real” job.  The idea of the starving artist sounds cool and dramatic, but the actuality of the matter is something different entirely!

Tim got married in 2001 and in 2008 welcomed a daughter into the world, followed by a son in 2010.  Now as a father, he finds the kids asking what all those instruments and equipment are used for. So it’s time to get back to work!
